i can't blame him for having ambition, i think he gets a bit carried away with sharing those ambitions sometimes. still, id rather we had chairmen with ambition that be content to plod along.

Ron, my comment regarding sullivan mouthing off was in reply to people being underwhelmed. He set high expectations and, for whatever reason, has failed to deliver at the moment.

Players and agents hold all the power in these transfer deals. Sullivan won't get bent over like the Icelandic's did. Some very average players getting big wages on long contracts. Agents will wait until the last minute for the best deal. Even players who have had poor seasons like Bony or Benteke will want more money to move. Loads of bad business out there.
We got stung with Carroll deal so I doubt that Sullivan will want to repeat that.

We could do with signing someone like Gregory Schlupp, absolute class player although he's only playing part time at the moment in Romania. I know him personally and he's definitely good enough and would definitely join if an offer was made,
Marvin Monzhou is decent too, been absolutely smashing it in the Zambian 4th Division. There's good players out there if you're willing to take a chance on them.

The signings we've made have been decent.
But we have issues at RB, LB (cresswell being injured) and up front.
We cannot go into the season with Carroll as our main striker, he's too unreliable. I know we've signed the chap from Sao Paolo on loan but we seriously need to address our attacking options quickly.

pretty much like every other team, most business gets done in the final month of the window, in fact usual the finale week or two i believe. having two big international tournaments in the summer hasnt helped either. we are the second most active team in terms of transfers in the PL this summer.

Agreed happy with the signings made so far , with undoubtedly through necessity more to come. My only gripe is that whoever we now bring in prior to the season starting or by the end of the transfer window will not be fully integrated into the team. Thus yet another season will begin when we are nowhere near up to speed and functioning at 100%

My guess is that we may have planned to look at another left and back, but obviously a striker was no1 prority, which I wouldn't have argued with. It's just Creswell's crocking changed the game somewhat.

The deals so far have been good and well thought through.
My issues though are the lack of a plan at left back and upfront.
The owners have been incredible for us but just as Sam couldn't progress the team I know think this summer is showing the limitations of our approach and we need fresh leadership.

I think we've done what 'looks' to be some good business so far. Feghouli, Tore, Fletcher etc. Exactly how good, only time will tell. The downsides so far, for me, were letting Tomkins go and Slav persisting with this Antonio at RB bollocks.
I think Sullivan's doing his best, it's just he's trying to swim in much deeper waters now. And you get the impression he's not making a very good job of it. Plus, as usual, he's made a rod for his own back, by raising people's expectations to a level he can't deliver.
Personally, I couldn't give a shit if everyone we get is on a free, or signed from Bradford or wherever, or if they're players no-one's ever heard of. Just so long as they can do the job they're brought in to do. To be honest, I'd actually prefer non-'name' signings in many ways.

I dont give a flying one about the cost, one it's not my money and two, it was blindingly obvious what would happen with the new tv deal
Here is a revelation for you, it will only go up more as the overseas tv money tumbles in
What does steam my piss is the lack of foresight and the resultant and obvious panic around the FB's.
Strikers are one thing and in Fletcher they have done well, but there is zero excuse for the defensive woes

do you not think that the chairman will know anyway? do you not think that agents talk and we know roughly the price of the player and that the opposing chairman knows we want him? everybody in world football knows that PL teams have big wedge available this summer. as i said though, as soon as the chairman answers the phone and knows someone is interested in his 'crown jewel' he knows he holds all the cards and his price will be the same no matter what has been said in the media.

Ron. We get the same posts from the same type of fans every single year, usually the same fans who suggest that Sullivan only mentions potential signings to sell season tickets. I can't tell you the amount of times I've bought a season ticket SOLELY on the 'promises' of who the chairman might or might not be targeting. I fall for it every season!
